Although not an active member, I have followed the activities of EATAW with a great deal of interest. For the past twenty four years, I have worked in the field of technical communication teaching Finnish undergraduate engineering students. It is my opinion that EATAW could further serve to bring together teachers of technical or other writing disciplines, to offer support and to encourage cooperation between teachers and institutions. After all, if graduate students are expected to perform on the international stage, surely the teacher should make an entrance as well.
In addition to the teaching of technical writing, I am also involved in doing research on the further development of a slide design that can be used in the teaching of technical writing. I will be presenting some of my research at the EATAW conference in June. After twenty four years of teaching, I feel the time is now right to give something back to a profession I dearly love.
