The Conference

We are pleased to announce the 4th Conference of the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing.

The conference will be hosted by the Writing Centre at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany.

We warmly invite teachers of academic writing, staff and administrators of writing centres and writing programmes, researchers of academic writing processes and products, administrators and politicians in the field of higher education from all over Europe to attend the conference. Participants from other parts of the world are equally welcome. The conference is open to anyone who has a professional interest in teaching academic writing across and within the disciplines, especially at European universities.

The conference aims at

  • creating a forum for an inspiring exchange about teaching methods, implementation models and results related to research in academic writing,
  • promoting innovation, quality and sustainability in the pedagogy of academic writing,
  • providing a cooperative and stimulating atmosphere with a variety of contribution types.

Conference Location

Bochum is located in the centre of a postindustrial district (“Ruhrgebiet”) which has a perfect infrastructure, reasonable prices, a lot of easy-to-reach tourist attractions and a vivid multicultural life. It is easily accessible for Europeans and participants from all over the world via the airports of Düsseldorf, Köln-Bonn, Dortmund, Münster and Paderborn.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is a large campus university with all disciplines (32,000 students). The conference will be held at the Faculty of Languages, a recently modernized roomy building for 6000 students and with a corresponding range of rooms.
