Lisa Ganobcsik-Williams

I have been an active member of EATAW since 2001 and have presented at every EATAW conference. I welcome the opportunity to stand for the EATAW board because I am committed to the values of cross-national exchange that the organization promotes. As the student body of European educational institutions becomes increasingly ‘international’, I believe that EATAW will have a progressively important role to play in researching and disseminating awareness of cultural differences in Academic Writing practices and student approaches to learning. This is why I am already involved as a board member of EWCA, the European Writing Centers Association, and by serving on the boards of both EATAW and EWCA, I would help to foster productive links and dovetail some of the activities of both organizations. As a board member of EATAW, I would also seek to help establish and edit a proposed European Journal of Writing.

I am the founding Co-ordinator of the Centre for Academic Writing, Coventry University, England, and I have taught and tutored writing in both US and UK universities. My research interests include the historical development of Academic Writing teaching in different national contexts and the role of writing centers in teaching writing in the disciplines. Most recently, I have edited a book on teaching Academic Writing in UK higher education.
